Governor Abbott Appoints Five To Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board Of Directors
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Andy Williams to the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation Board of Directors for a term set to expire on February 1, 2023. Additionally, the Governor has appointed Lali Shipley and Courtney Johnson Rose for terms set to expire on February 1, 2021, and reappointed Valerie Vargas Cardenas and William H. “Bill” Dietz, Jr. for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025. The board oversees the provision of affordable housing for low income Texans.
Andy Williams of Fort Worth is the founder and CEO of Recon Realty, PBC. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, U.S. Veteran’s Business Alliance, and Council for Inclusion in Financial Services. He served in the United States Marine Corps and received an Honorable Discharge. Williams received a Bachelor of Business administration from American Military University.
Lali Shipley of Austin is a project manager and designer for Weiss Architecture. She is a former member of the American Institute of Architecture Students, and previously conducted an award-winning independent study of Argentina’s historic conservation approaches in Buenos Aires. She also currently serves as a youth leader at Austin Oaks Church. Shipley received a Bachelor of Science in entrepreneurship from Grove City College and a Master of Architecture with a concentration in historic preservation from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Courtney Johnson Rose of Missouri City and Houston is a real estate developer and broker for George E. Johnson Properties. She is a member of the Houston Land Bank and the Houston Association of Realtors, and serves as the 2nd vice president of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers. Additionally, she is chair of the Board for the Texas Association of African American Chambers of Commerce and the Houston Community College Advisory Board and former chair of the Board for the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce. Johnson Rose received a Bachelor of Arts in business economics from The University of Texas at Austin and a Masters of Real Estate Development from Prairie View A&M University.
Valerie Vargas Cardenas of San Juan is the executive vice president of Mortgage Banking operations for Lone Star National Bank in McAllen. She currently serves as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the City of San Juan and most recently served as an executive board member of Affordable Homes South Texas, Inc. She has also served in leadership roles as a fund distribution committee member of United Way of South Texas and as president of the Pharr Chamber of Commerce, American Diabetes Association-RGV, and the Palmer Drug Abuse Program. Additionally, she is an alumnus of Leadership Texas, McAllen and Pharr. Cardenas received a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from St. Edward’s University.
William H. “Bill” Dietz, Jr. of Waco is a financial advisor and president of Dietz Financial Services, LLC. He is a member of the Financial Services Institute, City of Waco Zoning Board of Adjustments, and the Rotary Club of Waco. Additionally, he is on the board of directors of the McLennan Community College Foundation, Waco Civic Theatre, and the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) Longhorn Council. He serves as district chair of the Indian Nations district for BSA, and is an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 308 in Waco. Dietz received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Baylor University. He was first appointed to the board in 2009, is currently serving as the board chair.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
