Governor Abbott Appoints Five To Texas Privacy Protection Advisory Council

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Bart Huffman, Justin Koplow, Jeanette “Jeannie” White, Lemuel Williams, Jr., and Michael Wyatt to the Texas Privacy Protection Advisory Council for terms to expire on December 31, 2020, or sooner if the Governor deems it appropriate. The council, which was created by the 86th Legislature in 2019, will study the laws that govern the privacy and protection of information that is linked to a specific individual, technological device, or household and make recommendations to the Legislature regarding the privacy and protection of Texans’ information.

Bart Huffman of San Antonio is an adjunct professor at The University of Texas School of Law and is a partner in the Reed Smith LLP law firm. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a registered practitioner by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He previously served on the Greater Houston Partnership Cybersecurity Task Force, and he formerly served as the president of the Princeton Alumni Association of South Texas. Huffman received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University with a Certificate in Engineering and Management Systems and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law.

Justin Koplow of Dallas is an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and is Senior Legal Counsel, Assistant Vice President - Data Protection Officer for AT&T. He previously worked in associate general counsel positions for the Central Intelligence Agency and the Director of National Intelligence, and he is a Certified Information Privacy Professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is a member of the Solar League, which supports the Dallas ISD Solar Preparatory School for Girls at James B. Bonham. Koplow received a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law.

Jeanette “Jeannie” White of Keller is Associate General Counsel for CoreLogic, a data-enabled solutions provider for the real estate, lending, and insurance industries, where she acts as primary internal counsel on consumer protection laws. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the Girl Scouts. White received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctor degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.

Lemuel Williams, Jr. of Austin is Principal Partner for CTX Capital Group, LLC, where he is responsible for evaluating, advising, and providing consulting support services for software-as-a-service companies that are focused on cybersecurity for business management applications. He is an executive board member of the Future Forum of the LBJ Presidential Library, advisory board member of The Annette Strauss Institute For Civic Life, and member of the Board of Directors of the Amplify Credit Union. Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Information Systems from The University of Texas at Austin.

Michael Wyatt of Austin is an Enterprise Cybersecurity Programs & Privacy Assessments Principal at Deloitte & Touche LLP. He has led cybersecurity and privacy program development activities including leading the implementation of one of the first state Chief Privacy Officer departments for the state of South Carolina. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Additionally, he volunteers with St. Edward’s University and Junior Achievement of Central Texas. Wyatt received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Business Administration in Information Systems from St. Edwards University.
