Governor Abbott Appoints Alanis And Huizar To Texas Municipal Retirement System Board of Trustees
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Anali Alanis and Juan Diego “Johnny” Huizar to the Texas Municipal Retirement System Board of Trustees for terms set to expire on February 1, 2021 and February 1, 2023, respectively. The board oversees the Texas Municipal Retirement System, which is responsible for providing a secure retirement benefit plan for eligible employees of more than 800 cities.
Anali Alanis of Pharr is an Assistant City Manager for the City of Pharr, with over a decade of successful municipal experience. As an Assistant City Manager, she coordinates the policies and programs of a number of municipal departments, including Police, Fire, Innovation & Technology, Human Resources and others. She is the Chairperson of the Rio Grande Valley Human Resources Consortium and a member of the International City/County Management Association. Alanis received an Associates of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Applied Technology Management from South Texas College in McAllen, and a Master of Public Affairs from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Juan Diego “Johnny” Huizar of Pleasanton is City Manager for the City of Pleasanton, where he oversees and manages all aspects of the municipal government in conjunction with the elected municipal officials. He previously served other roles in municipal government, from wastewater operator, to superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant, then ultimately public works director. He is a member of the Economic Development Committee of the Alamo Area Council of Governments. Huizar received an Associate degree in Construction Technology from San Antonio College and a City Manager certification from Texas State University.
