Honoring our Texas Women Veterans
Yesterday I attended the first annual Texas Women Veterans Day Celebration at the Texas State Capitol, where I was joined by hundreds of Texans in Austin – and thousands more at events across the state – in honoring our women veterans in the Lone Star State.
I read Greg’s Women Veterans Day proclamation, which said in part:
“Throughout America’s proud military history, women have played a vital role, serving with honor and distinction. Women have displayed the bravery, commitment and strength we have come to expect from our military, and I am proud to recognize and commend their selflessness and dedication.”
During the 85th Legislative Session, Greg signed into law HB 2698, designating June 12 as Women Veterans Day in Texas. Many thanks to the Texas Veterans Commission and the Governor's Commission for Women for helping make the event such a success!
Texas has more than 177,000 women veterans, and I encourage all Texans to learn more about the contributions that women veterans have made and continue to make to our state and nation, thank them for their service. For decades, they have played a vital role in allowing us to experience the freedom and liberty that we as Americans have fought so dearly to preserve.
