Governor Abbott Participates In Hurricane Preparedness Briefing With President And Federal Officials
Governor Greg Abbott today joined President Donald Trump, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, FEMA Administrator Brock Long, Cabinet members and Governors from across the country for a video teleconference briefing on hurricane preparedness. Joining Governor Abbott in Austin, TX for the briefing were officials from various state agencies that oversee emergency response. The briefing was held to review key lessons learned after the 2017 hurricane season, and FEMA also provided an overview of the following topics: evacuation zones, clearance times, decision timelines and forecast uncertainty, responsible decision makers, and public messaging. Following the briefing, the Governor discussed with state officials how Texas is already preparing for the next hurricane.
"As the recovery from Hurricane Harvey continues and another hurricane season begins, now is the time to prepare," said Governor Abbott. "The state is actively readying resources and communication and response strategies to protect families and property in the event of another hurricane. I thank the Administration for today’s briefing, and I look forward to our continued coordination with federal partners throughout the 2018 hurricane season."
