Governor Abbott Meets With Acting Ambassador, Business Executives In Tokyo, Japan

Governor Greg Abbott today met with Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, U.S. Embassy Tokyo, Joseph M. Young in Tokyo, Japan. Following their visit, they attended a reception with business and government representatives at the Official Residence of the U.S. Ambassador. The reception brought together American and Japanese businesses and communities to foster mutual cooperation and develop opportunities for investment in Texas. The meeting and reception are part of Governor Abbott’s week-long economic development trip to Asia. 

Joseph M. Young became Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, U.S. Embassy Tokyo, in July of 2019. Young, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy Tokyo from 2017 to 2019. From 2014 to 2017, he served as the Director for Japanese Affairs at the Department of State and from 2012 to 2014, Mr. Young was Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor for the U.S. Pacific Command. He also served as Political-Military Unit Chief at U.S. Embassy Tokyo from 2009 to 2012. Mr. Young’s other assignments include: Political-Economic Section Chief, U.S. Embassy Dublin; Aviation Negotiations Officer in the State Department’s Economics Bureau, Economics Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy Beijing; Economics Researcher at the Foreign Service Institute; Political Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy Nairobi; and Consular Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy Singapore.
