October 9, 2018 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today joined the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce for their 2018 annual celebration of the community’s economic growth and success over the past year. The Governor also participated in the annual Spindletop award ceremony, which honors businesses in the greater Beaumont area that have demonstrated outstanding citizenship and had an overall positive influence in their community.

"I thank the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce for their economic prowess bringing more jobs to this entire region, and for being an economic engine for the entire state,” said Governor Abbott. “Going back to the days of Spindletop, the economic might of Beaumont put Texas on the path to become the energy capitol of world. The entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that sparked Spindletop remains vibrant today and lives on in current day business leaders throughout Southeast Texas.”

The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce (GBCOC) serves members and the community as a catalyst to promote the economic growth of Beaumont and the surrounding areas. The GBCOC continues to place the economic development needs of established and new businesses first by advocating for the business community and developing cutting edge programs that support economic growth in the region.

The Spindletop award was created in 1999 to recognize larger area businesses for outstanding corporate citizenship and overall impact on their community. A committee consisting of Board members and past chairs of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce chooses the award recipient based on history in the community, overall impact to Southeast Texas, and collaboration with other business and governmental entities.
