Governor Abbott Announces Growing Support For Prohibiting Taxpayer Funding Of Abortion Providers
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that his call to prohibit local and state government from using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion providers is generating growing support across Texas. Prohibiting taxpayer funding of abortion providers and their affiliates is part of the Governor's 20-item agenda for the ongoing special legislative session.
“The Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops strongly supports efforts to stop local governments from subsidizing abortion providers and affiliates with taxpayer supported buildings and programs. We look forward to addressing this critical issue during the special session.”- Jennifer Allmon, Executive Director, Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops
"The Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission supports legislative efforts to end taxpayer funding to abortion providers. Taxpayer dollars whether local, state or federal should not be spent on abortion providers. We support Governor Abbott for championing pro-life policy decisions and commend him for adding this important legislation to the special session call." - Gus Reyes, Director, Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission
"Tax dollars should not be used to support the taking of an unborn human life – and polling clearly states that a majority of Texans oppose abortion. We thank Gov. Abbott for his leadership and call on legislators this special session to do right by the taxpayers of Texas by eliminating all taxpayer funding for abortion." - Jonathan Saenz, President, Texas Values
"The Texas Legislature has worked hard over the past several sessions to ensure public tax dollars are not used to fund abortions. Governor Abbott is making sure that Texas taxpayers are not forced to fund abortion providers and their affiliates, and we are encouraged that the legislature will continue their work on this issue." - Joe Pojman, Ph.D., Executive Director, Texas Alliance for Life
"Texans are weary of subsidizing abortion businesses, and we applaud the Governor for acting to finally end it." - Kyleen Wright, President, Texans for Life
“Taxpayers in Texas should not be funding abortion providers at the federal, state or local level. The Texas Legislature has the ability to eliminate all public funding for elective abortions. When it comes to women’s health, Texas offers over 5,000 providers through the Healthy Texas Women program whereby a woman needing preventative care, prenatal care etc. can receive these services. This is a sound solution for those women in need and for pre-born women as well.” - Trayce Bradford, President, Texas Eagle Forum
"The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention affirms the determination of elected state officials to protect the unborn, and their efforts to deny public funding to health providers that contribute to and perform abortion services. We believe the personhood of the unborn should be respected and protected, and public funds should never be used to destroy innocent human life." - Gary Ledbetter, Communications Director, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention
