Governor Abbott Announces Education Hotline For Parents In Victoria, TX
Governor Greg Abbott today announced the creation of a telephone hotline by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for parents in the Victoria area to receive updates regarding public education announcements following Hurricane Harvey.
Earlier this week, TEA established a similar hotline for parents in the Corpus Christi area, while more are planned for expanded areas of the state experiencing delays in the start of the school year as a result of Hurricane Harvey.
“Many school districts across the Gulf Coast region are experiencing delays in the start of the new school year,” said Governor Abbott. “We understand that while we are just beginning the rebuilding and recovery process, parents in these areas are looking for information on when school will resume and how displaced children can continue their education during this time. I applaud Commissioner Morath and the Texas Education Agency for their work and attention to the parents and children in the hardest-hit communities. We are committing to Texans the full force of their state government to get operations back to normal as quickly as possible.”
“Many families who have been displaced from their homes are making decisions on where to enroll their son or daughter,” said Commissioner of Education Mike Morath. “I want those families to have accurate information. This hotline serves as that resource for parents to help them during a difficult time.”
Parents in the Victoria area can call (512) 463-9603 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. seven days a week for up-to-date information on public education options and enrollment information for their student.
