Governor Abbott Announces Departure Of Long-Time Advisor
After nearly a decade of service to the State of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott’s Chief Operating Officer, Reed Clay, today announced he will leave the administration to join the private sector.
“During his time in the Attorney General’s office and my first term as Governor, Reed has been a close and trusted advisor who distinguished himself as a leader in times of crisis,” said Governor Abbott. "Reed is an expert problem-solver who tackled some of the biggest issues facing the State of Texas, none bigger than Hurricane Harvey when he stepped forward to lead the efforts in my office to ensure a swift and effective recovery process. I am immensely grateful for Reed’s service and friendship. He departs having made unparalleled contributions to my administration and the entire State of Texas.”
Reed Clay has worked as a close advisor for Attorney General and Governor Abbott for nearly a decade. In this time, he has become an expert in how government works at the state, federal and local levels. With a keen understanding of the law, policy and politics across a broad range of issues, Clay played a leading role in implementing Governor Abbott’s vision for the state. Prior to joining Governor Abbott, Clay served as a litigator for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.. A native Texan, he holds masters and law degrees from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University.
Clay’s last day in the Governor’s office will be October 15, 2018.
