Light The Way
I am excited to once again join my fellow First Spouses across the United States in participating in the Light the Way Campaign. This initiative was started in 2011 by First Lady Mary Pat Christie of New Jersey to shine a light on the groundbreaking advances being made to empower individuals with Down syndrome. This year, First Lady Valerie Sununu of New Hampshire and First Lady Robin Hickenlooper are leading the charge.
Today – March 21st – as part of the Light the Way campaign, we have tied a blue ribbon on the front gate of the Texas Governor’s Mansion. Blue is the color used in recognition of Down syndrome research, and March 21 is particularly meaningful as Down syndrome results from the presence of three copies of chromosome 21. I encourage all Texans to join me in learning about the advances being made in Down syndrome research and in raising awareness about the ways we can make a difference in the lives of those with Down syndrome.
