Deputy Executive Director – Austin, Texas

The Texas Space Commission is looking for a Deputy Executive Director (Director V) to work in the Texas Space Commission.

Who We Are

The Texas Space Commission works to promote innovation in the field of space operations and commercial aerospace opportunities, including the integration of space, aeronautics, and aviation industries into the Texas economy. We are located primarily within the Texas State Capitol Complex in Austin.

What You’ll Earn

The salary is $9,583.34 - $15,039.59 a month ($115,000.08 - $180,475.08 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs highly advanced (senior-level) managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and implementation processes. Work involves analyzing, evaluating, and monitoring records, reports, policies, contracts, and agreements to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.

  • Provides reports to the Executive Director.
  • Assists the Executive Director with staffing for Commission activities.
  • Assists the Executive Director with the coordination of Commission programs and operations.
  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise, professional confidence, and clarity when representing the Commission.
  • Assists the Executive Director with the identification of staff development and training requirements.
  • Represents the Executive Director at business meetings, conferences, and seminars or panels.
  • Monitors goals and objectives consistent with the Commission’s legislative mandates and strategic plan.
  • Oversees the preparation, publication, and dissemination of statistical and policy related reports and publications.
  • Serves as a contact with stakeholders designated by the Executive Director.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of the Governor and other state agencies to accomplish the work of the Commission.
  • Coordinates with and serves as liaison between the Executive Director and legislative offices.
  • Participates in activities related to the legislative process including responding to legislative requests for information.
  • Analyzes proposed federal and state legislation for impact on Commission operations, stakeholders, and related policy matters.
  • Assist with developing and implementing procedures for administration of the Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund.

How You’ll Qualify                                         

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible management, leadership, or public policy experience relevant to assignment, to include academia, commercial sector, federal and/or state government.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop academic, commercial, military, or governmental partnerships or coalitions.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Experience with establishing new state agency programs.
  • Advanced degree in a field relevant to aerospace or economic development.
  • Certified as a Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM).
  • Extensive knowledge of space, aeronautics, and aviation industries in the State of Texas.
