The Office of the Governor is looking for an Assistant Press Secretary (Information Specialist III) to work in the Communications Division.

The salary is $4,166.67 - $5,286.67 a month ($50,000.04 - $63,440.04 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs highly complex (senior-level) informational and communications work. Work involves coordinating the production of OOG publications, media management, and assists with the production of publications, news releases, and OOG website content.

  • Coordinates with the Communications Director, Press Secretary, and Deputy Press Secretary to develop, manage, and organize communications activities for the Governor, including but not limited to writing press releases, fielding media inquiries, managing requests for interviews, maintaining division databases and news clippings files, etc.
  • Supports OOG marketing efforts through flawless writing, editing, and proofreading of publications and web content and assisting the OOG in successfully promoting events, programs, and the Governor’s statewide initiatives.
  • Assists with monitoring media coverage of the Governor’s events, appearances, and messages, and responds as needed.
  • Ensures that all correspondence accurately reflects the administration’s position on issues and is well-written, grammatically correct, and accessible information. Performs research as necessary to write and respond to complex technical issues.
  • Verifies that project deliverables consistently comply with departmental expectations, agency style, and communication guidelines. Verifies and thoroughly researches source information as necessary to ensure the accuracy of all correspondence prior to release.
  • Coordinates with various OOG divisions and state agencies to advise the Communications Division or OOG senior leadership on, or prepare responses to, issues for press releases, media inquiries, press events, interviews, etc. Works closely with state agency communications offices to coordinate messaging and collaboration on the Governor’s initiatives.
  • Assists with Governor’s office web content.
  • Acts as a liaison with state agency communications offices. Assists with weekly calls with all state agencies.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing the Governor’s press conferences, announcements, and other press events.
  • Assists with maintaining division databases and news clippings files, as needed.
  • Ensures full coordination with OOG executive and senior staff as required to plan public announcements and special events. Maintains strict confidentiality where required.
  • Works collaboratively with the Appointments Division to verify information on the Governor’s appointees.
  • Coordinates with the Governor’s Scheduling team as appropriate to accomplish seamless press and public events.
  • Serves as the Divisional Intern Coordinator.
  • Serves as the Divisional Records Retention Coordinator. Assists with inventory and classification of division files according to the OOG Records Retention Schedule, including office archiving.
  • Demonstrates ethical and sound judgment in all business dealings. Promotes public confidence in the Governor and Office of the Governor’s employees.

How You’ll Qualify                                           

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of experience in writing, editing, and disseminating public information.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
