The Legislative Coordinator works within the Office of the Governor, Legislative Affairs Division, and reports to the Director of Legislative Affairs. Performs complex (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves assigning and tracking pending legislation for the Office of the Governor. Specific tasks include a broad range of responsibilities including legislative and administrative duties. May provide guidance to others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
• Greets and assists visitors including officials from other agencies.
- Answers the telephone, routes messages; evaluates and answers questions.
- Effectively and timely assigns, routes and tracks pending legislation and amendments.
- Assists with public inquiries regarding pending legislation.
- Researches constituent requests and composes response letters to legislators and constituents.
- Monitors agency legislative packages and floor proceedings.
- Monitors bill status and works with advisors on analysis.
- Provides information to legislators concerning issues important to the Governor.
- Attends legislative committee meetings and write status reports.
- Assists with developing proper protocol and procedures for communicating with legislators and staff.
• Schedules and coordinates meetings/appointments; anticipates and prepares information for meetings.
• Reviews and organizes mail for the Legislative division or their assistants; highlights important information.
• Types letters, memos and reports; proofs and edits for grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and clarity.
• Maintains complex bill tracking system and assemble legislative bill histories.
- May draft bill analyses on pending legislation and draft enrolled bill analyses memoranda.
- May develop, schedule, and conduct training.
- Maintains regular work schedule.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, government, political science or related field; and
- Two (2) years of professional experience.
Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Advanced knowledge of the legislative process.

Registration, Certification or Licensure
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions
This classification functions in a standard office environment. Ability to move up to 20 Ibs. Ability to drive and travel as needed. Will need to move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, set up conference rooms for meetings, etc. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information via phone, computer and in person. Must be able to observe and evaluate data in a variety of formats, including hard copy, electronic and media formats. Must be able to work hours during a legislative session that include holidays and as needed.
