Advanced Manufacturing

"Made in Texas" is a powerful global brand.

A magnet for manufacturing, Texas is where today's products are made and where tomorrow's technologies are brought to life. In fact, Texas is the #1 exporting state in the nation, now for 23 consecutive years, and the top exporting state for 92 countries across the world.

Texas Advantages: Texas offers unmatched operating advantages for advanced manufacturers: a business-friendly climate—with no coporate or personal income tax—along with a predictable regulatory environment, a highly skilled and growing workforce, a central geographic location in North America, robust infrastructure providing direct access to domestic and international markets and an export-oriented production environment. And with lower energy and land costs, faster permitting and fewer land-use restrictions, Texas offers advanced manufacturers room to grow.

Targest industry clusters within the Advanced Manufacturing sector include:

  • Aerospace Vehicles, Aircraft and Defense
  • Automotive
  • Computers, Electronics and Semiconductors
  • Production Technology and Heavy Machinery

Aerospace Vehicles, Aircraft and Defense

An epicenter for the global aerospace and aviation industry, Texas is home to the headquarters of two international airlines, major operations for leading commercial space firms, 15 active military installations and the Army Futures Command headquarters as well as NASA's Johnson Space Center. The broad range of aerospace activities in Texas includes fighter jet manufacturing, helicopter assembly, navigation instrument development, advanced space-flight research, military flight training and commercial space travel.

Building on a legacy of space leadership, Texas now stands at the helm of the next generations of human exploration and is creating the model for the modern space economy. The new Texas Space Commission, through the Space Exploration & Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF), provides grants to promote innovation in space operations and commercial aerospace.

Automotive

Texas is home to more than 730 automotive manufacturing facilities. Industry leaders investing in Texas include global Fortune 500 brand leaders General Motors, Tesla, Toyota and more. These automakers are supported by a robust supplier ecosystem that creates a reliable supply chain network with significant logistical and cost benefits. As a result of these investments, Texas has experienced a 48% increase in automotive manufacturing output over the last 10 years, and Texas ranks #2 in the U.S. for automotive exports, including motor vehicles, bodies, parts and trailers.

Computers, Electronics and Semiconductors

Texas is the birthplace of the integrated circuit and where the future of the semiconductor industry is building. Ranked #1 in the U.S. for semiconductor manufacturing capacity, Texas is the #1 exporter of semiconductors and other electronic components for 14 consecutive years.

Texas is leading America's resurgence in semiconductor manufacturing. The Texas CHIPS Act, signed into law in 2023, established the Texas CHIPS Office, the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC) and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to leverage Texas' investments in the semiconductor industry, encourage semiconductor-related companies to expand in the state, further develop the expertise and capacity of Texas institutions of higher eductation and maintain the state's position as the nation's leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Production Technology and Heavy Machinery

Critical to the state, national and global economies, industries in this cluster include heavy equipment manufacturing, such as farm machinery, mining machinery and other industrial and construction machinery as well as upstream activities such as ball and roller bearing manufacturing, valve and fitting manufacturing and fabricated metal manufacturing. The state's robust infrastructure and large and growing workforce make Texas an ideal location for production technology and heavy machinery businesses to locate, driving steady employment and GDP growth in the cluster.
