Information Technology & AI

Texas is the new frontier in technological advancements.

The state’s high-tech sector has long been a major player in the U.S. economy and Texas is now poised to lead in new advanced technologies, notably AI and data centers. Texas is already home to one of the world's largest data center markets in Dallas, and accelerating demand for artificial intelligence (AI) solutions is driving significant investments in data center growth across the state. Moreover, Texas leads the nation in cybersecurity, with the highest concentration of cyber and intelligence professionals outside of the nation’s capital in San Antonio.

Most notably, Texas was chosen for the Stargate Project — a $500 billion AI data center project bringing between 10-20 data centers to an 895-acre campus in Abilene. The project is being led by SoftBank, OpenAI and Oracle and is expected to create thousands of jobs and boost the entire state’s economy.

With a well-established and growing IT sector, Texas has the innovation, infrastructure and talent to lead in developing the technologies of tomorrow. As the world becomes increasingly digitized, nearly every industry is adopting new forms of technology. The IT sector includes a variety of industries that use computer systems to exchange information and manage, process and protect data.

Texas Advantages: Texas is a magnet for tech talent, with more new tech jobs than any state. Innovative startups are joining global technology leaders along with longtime IT titans. With a young, diverse and growing population, Texas is a leading state for math and computer sciences and engineering doctorates. Texas offers unmatched room to grow with lower land costs, fewer land-use restrictions, faster permitting, lower energy costs, lower costs of living and more. Historic investments by the state in education, energy, water and workforce development are securing an even brighter future. Texas is the new frontier for discovery thanks to collaboration with innovative industry leaders and the state’s world-class universities and Tier One research institutions.

Texas is launching the largest state-based cybersecurity initiative in America. The new Texas Cyber Command signed into law in 2024 will be headquartered in San Antonio to partner with leading national cybersecurity missions, including the Sixteenth Air Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Southwest Texas Fusion Center.
