Texas Archive of the Moving Image Internships

Applications are accepted year-round for internships at the Texas Archive of the Moving Image. TAMI's internships are unpaid except for the Summer 2023 AMIA Pathways Fellowship, a paid position funded by the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) and open to people from groups historically underrepresented in the media archives profession. If you are applying to the AMIA Pathways Fellowship, you should complete TAMI's internship application as well as the AMIA Pathways Fellowship application. Pathways Fellowship applicants should also indicate a project opportunity area in their application.

Description of Project Opportunities:

  • Digitization Intern (On-Site) - Intern will assist with all phases of the Texas Archive of the Moving Image's film and videotape digitization process, from preparation to digitization to file transfers. Training on specific procedures, equipment, and software will be provided, but prior film-handling experience is an asset. 
  • Cataloging Intern (Off- or On-Site) - Intern will catalog and assist in curation of selected videos for inclusion in the Texas Archive of the Moving Image collection at www.texasarchive.org. The intern will be assigned video collections from the archive, which include industrial and corporate productions, home movies, advertisements, local television, and amateur films. The intern will conduct significant research and cataloging of a specific video collection, then create and implement a curatorial plan for the collection. 
  • Inventory and Assessment Intern (On-Site) - Intern will inventory materials into the TAMI database, transcribe item metadata from original objects, evaluate collections to determine their suitability for inclusion in the archive, and aid in prioritizing collections for preservation.
  • Communications Intern (Off- or On-Site) -  Intern will create content for TAMI’s social media channels and email communications and assist with other communication tasks to engage TAMI’s contributors and audiences. Basic video editing skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud are helpful.
  • Fundraising Intern (Off- or On-Site) - Intern will assist in TAMI's fundraising activities including creating donor communications, tracking interactions with donors via Salesforce, and working with both our fundraiser and communication specialist to create fundraising campaigns.

Eligibility/Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Intern must commit to full semester internship; Digitization interns must commit to a total of 300 hours or two semesters
  • Interest and/or background in archives/libraries/museums, history, education, and/or media
  • All positions benefit from candidates who are responsible, detail-oriented, and self-directed
  • Knowledge of Texas history is helpful

About the Texas Archive of the Moving Image: Founded in 2002, Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to discover, preserve, provide access to, and educate the community about Texas’ film heritage. TAMI partners with the Office of the Governor’s Texas Film Commission to administer the Texas Film Round-Up program, which provides free digitization for Texas-related films and videotapes, online access to a selection of the contributed materials, and statewide public programming, as well as creates educator resources using these newly digitized Texas media in the classroom.
