Nov 15, 2016 - November Newsletter: TFC on the Road

(Continued from the Texas Film Commission Newsletter, November 2016)

In the midst of festival season, our entire team has taken part in various panels and participation across all of our industry festivals and events. We use these opportunities to showcase Texas as a hub of future productions by interacting with our workforce, sharing information on the importance of incentives, and encouraging productions and regions of Texas to increase their crew bases.

Austin Games Conference

At the Austin Games Conference in September, our Video Game and Animation Liaison, Jo Lammert, presented on the state of the Texas gaming industry, which is currently ranked #2 in the nation.

Visits to El Paso and San Antonio

Our director, Heather Page, traveled to El Paso and San Antonio in October where she met with local community leaders and industry professionals to discuss short and long term strategies for building industry workforce in each region.

Austin Film Festival

We also sponsored the Austin Film Festival Texas Indie Track which showcased films that were made in Texas. We visited a number of screenings to congratulate the films, as well as to introduce our industry resources to audience members.

TXMPA Impact Awards

The first-ever TXMPA Impact Awards took place in Fort Worth on October 23. Headlined by Brad Leland, the event honored those in the industry who have made special contributions to Texas communities through production in television, film, commercial & video games. Click here to view the full list of those honored. Congratulations to all of the local businesses, individuals and projects that were honored.

Lone Star Film Festival & AICP Awards

At the Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth, our director participated on a panel to discuss the future of the film industry in Texas. Red Sanders, filmmaker and founder of Red Productions, moderated the panel, and filmmaker/Fort Worth-native James M. Johnston also participated as a panelist. We also traveled to Dallas to attend the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) Showcase Awards, which screened commercial works from the past year.

Looking Ahead to 2017

Next year, keep an eye out for us at SXSW 2017, where we will have a Texas Game Development Meet Up  and a booth at the SXSW Trade Show. We're also planning an exciting event around the announcement of two brand new Film Trails, as well as upcoming workforce training in the state. Stay tuned for what will be a busy, exciting year!
