FROM THE DIRECTOR
Since the last edition of our newsletter, we’ve seen progress with major productions. AMC’s new series “The Son” has wrapped, and Robert Rodriguez’s “Alita: Battle Angel” began principal photography. These are only two of many recent projects that have been produced in Texas, and in the next few months we look forward to more film, television, commercial and video game projects gear up for production across the state.
January also brings the start of the 85th Texas Legislative Session. The TFC will be here supporting that process and sharing data on our industries with the legislature. We ask you to please continue updating us on projects happening in Texas so we can report on the economic impact they have in your area and how they benefit Texas businesses! Whether it’s a call to our office about local production, adding credits to your listing in the Texas Production Directory or an email sharing with us how to better serve you, we want to continue hearing from you.
Finally, this past week I attended the Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth. While there, a producer told me that the reason he loves working in Texas is because the crews here don’t simply show up – they bring their A-game and really care about their work in a way that’s not found anywhere else. Whether the ‘crew’ is working for a video game developer, a TV show, a commercial or indie filmmaker, I hear this all the time. From first-hand experience, I know our expertise and love of the industry in Texas has been key to helping our industries survive some challenging and changing times.
And we don’t do it alone. This uniquely Texas spirit is also seen in the small businesses, vendors, local communities and related industries that provide support and help make our state so desirable for moving image production. I am so grateful for this team effort between the moving image industries and our communities that like a production itself, bring so many gifts, talents, resources and skills to the benefit of the Texas economy and culture. So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank communities and businesses across the state for your support and making Texas the best place for our industries to grow. For those of you who work in the industries we serve, keep up the great work and know the TFC staff works hard every day to increase your career opportunities and grow your businesses.
