Nacogdoches Film Festival

The Nacogdoches Film Festival is now accepting short film entries. The Nacogdoches Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating in Nacogdoches, Texas—an East Texas college community known for its arts focus and easy access to area attractions, trails, restaurants, shopping and scenic byways. The festival will take place in Nacogdoches, TX and held February 26 - 28, 2015.

Hill Country Film Festival

The Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF), a four day independent film event held in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg, Texas, April 30 - May 3, 2015, and presented by the Hill Country Film Society. Independent filmmakers from around the world are welcome to submit shorts (less than 30 minutes), features (70-120 minutes), short screenplays (less than 10 pages), and feature screenplays (70-120 pages). Each year, HCFF plays host to an average of 60 feature and short films that are produced and directed by filmmakers worldwide. An entry fee is required.

Cine Las Americas

Cine Las Americas invites filmmakers, producers and distributors to participate in the 18th annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival. The festival showcases contemporary films from Latin America (North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean) and the Iberian Peninsula. Films made by or about Latinos in the U.S. or the rest of the world, and films by or about indigenous groups of the Americas, are also invited to participate. The festival will take place in April 2015 in Austin, TX

Films for the Forest

The 2015 Films for the Forest (F3) call for submissions is now open. The theme for this year's film competition is ImaginEarth, and the festival hopes it will inspire filmmakers both novice and professional, and of all ages, to create and submit a forest-related short film. Created by the Austin-based non-profit Rainforest Partnership in 2009, the goal of this competition is to create awareness of the challenges facing forests and their communities.

The three judges this year are Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater, actress and humanitarian Eloise DeJoria and film culture expert Taylor Ellison. All films that the judges choose as Official Selections will be screened as a part of the SXSW Film Festival Community Film Screenings in Austin, and films under four minutes long are preferred.

For the first time, F3 will award the Peace, Love & Happiness Award, a $1,000 cash prize. Sponsored by JP's Peace Love & Happiness Foundation, the award will go to the winning film in the Short Shorts category.

Frame of Mind - Video Association of Dallas 2015

Frame of Mind,” a platform for all sorts of Indie film, from shorts to documentaries, is launching as a weekly series on KERA television. The shows are curated and produced by Bart Weiss, artistic director of the Video Association of Dallas and producer of  “Frame of Mind” since 1995. (The show was created in 1991 by Suzanne Dooley and Marlis Schmidt.”

Frame of Mind is a co-production from Art&Seek and Video Association of Dallas.

In order to be eligible films much satisfy one of the following criteria

  1. Principally filmed in the Texas
  2. Are about the history and culture of the Texas
  3. Key cast or crew (director, producer, screenwriter, actors) must be current residents of Texas.
  4. About a major Texas figure

Sight of Sound Film Competition

The Dallas Chamber Symphony invites filmmakers from around the world to participate in its Second Annual Sight of Sound Film Competition by creating new, short, silent films that are set to and inspired by a piece of classical music (much like Disney’s Fantasia, yet inclusive of live-action films). The deadline for original entries is March 1, 2015 with the winners being announced at the Symphony’s April 28, 2015 season finale.

Extremely Shorts Film Festival

Aurora Picture Show is accepting submissions period for the 2015 Extremely Shorts Film Festival. The 17th annual festival will be held June 2015 in Houston, Texas. The festival is a juried competition of adventurous three-minute or shorter films and videos from around the world. Each year a different juror (esteemed filmmaker, film programmer or arts curator) selects 20-25 mini-masterpieces to be shown at a two day screening event. Audience Choice cash awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The short format of the festival encourages innovative approaches to movie-making in a range of genres including narrative, art, experimental, documentary and animation.

The Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival strives to challenge viewers to examine the portrayal of people with disabilities in film and challenge negative stereotypes and to champion realistic portrayals of people with disabilities as fully dignified human beings with the potential to live full and productive lives.

The short film competition is your opportunity to share your view of disability with the Cinema Touching Disability audience.
