TFC Newsletter: January 2017
FROM THE DIRECTOR
We’ve finally arrived at 2017 and the 85th Texas Legislative Session has begun! It is an exciting time when our office and the Capitol area bustles with visitors and stakeholders seeking to have their voices heard about everything that matters to Texans until May 29 when session adjourns for another two years. Over the upcoming months this newsletter will keep you up-to-date with legislative proceedings that affect our industry.
I want to mention how excited I am about a few projects returning to Texas, and those shooting here for the first time. USA Network’s Queen of the South was picked up for Season 2 and is gearing up for production in Dallas this spring.
I’m also excited about a new project we’ve been working to bring to the state, National Geographic's limited series The Long Road Home, shooting in Killeen and elsewhere in the state. The project will be teaming with members of our armed forces at Fort Hood, who have been extremely generous with their time and resources during pre-production. Because of this project, we will be conducting another P.A. Workshop as part of our Workforce Training Program, this time teaming with our Texas veterans.
Finally, keep your eye out this spring for the April 8 premiere of AMC’s new series, The Son, based on the novel written by UT Michener Center for Writers alum, Philipp Meyer. Talent and crew spent over four months filming all throughout central Texas and beyond, so we are all looking forward to seeing Texas through their lens.
