About the Event:
Join Girlstart for free, hands-on STEM fun for all ages and genders at the Girlstart STEM Center in Austin, Texas. Come participate in Winter STEM activities for the whole family while discovering STEM careers!
Activities include:
- Arctic Migration: Explore Arctic Geese migration as you design a far-flying goose glider
- Candy Cane Coding: Learn to decode binary numbers as you create your own candy cane with a secret message!
- Circuit Reindeer: Channel your inner electrical engineer to create your own light up circuit reindeer.
- Holiday Microscopes: Take a closer look at holiday magic! Explore festive decorations under a microscope while learning the basic parts and how to use them.
- Insta Snow: Bring on the snow! Learn about polymers and how they form by connecting the molecules of water and Insta-Snow powder to create a light, fluffy snow!
- Jingle Circuits: Explore how conductive materials can make music by connecting frosty objects to a Makey Makey. Using a winter-themed soundboard, kids will trigger jolly jingles, twinkling tones, and snowy sound effects while discovering the STEM behind circuits, sound, and interactive design.
- Polar Bear Parachutes: Use the engineer design process by designing, building, and testing a parachute to bring your polar bear to the ground slowly!
- Snowball Launchers: Use your knowledge of potential and kinetic energy to engineer your own indoor snowball launcher
- The Science of Winter: Watch stunning science videos projected across the planetarium dome, immersing you in the beauty and science behind the coldest season of the year.
- Winter Thaumatropes: Create the illusion of apparent motion by constructing your own winter thaumatrope.
Reminder: Chaperones are required. Adults must stay with their children throughout the event.
