Celebrating 25 Years of the Austin Film Festival

With 20 made-in-Texas films premiering this year, Austin Film Festival had no shortage of Texas ties as it celebrated 25 years. Each Texas screening had archival footage provided by our friends at Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI), and TFC Staff hosted Q&A’s and panels throughout the festival, including the 'Made in Texas' panel outside the Paramount. Thank You to AFF for continuing to honor filmmaking in the Lone Star State.

Film 101 Workshop in South Padre

On November 17, we traveled to the CineSol Film Festival in South Padre Island where we hosted the Film Commission 101 Workshop alongside the Houston Film Commission and South Padre Island CVB where festival attendees and the general public learned about the variety of services and initiatives we offer - both locally and statewide. Thank you to the CineSol Film Festival for inviting us to participate. What a great turnout from the local RGV community!

AFS Cinema

We partnered with the Austin Film Society to present a screening of Texas-made Thunder Road. The self-distributed feature premiered at AFS Cinema, which continues to celebrate Texas filmmakers and connect Austin and Texas to the wider film community.

San Marcos Film Locations Workshop

On October 16, we participated in a discussion with the San Marcos community on the benefits of having a business or property used as a filming location. That same day, the Greater San Marcos Partnership released an economic impact study from productions that have visited the Film Friendly Texas (FFTX) certified community. Thank you to the San Marcos community for joining us and exemplifying what it means to be FFTX certified.

Virtual Reality in Houston

Virtual Reality continues to make its way to worldwide film and media festivals. This year, we attended the 10th annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival as they embraced the growing technologies of Virtual Reality with “360 Cinema: A Collective Virtual Reality Experience.” Festival attendees and the Houston public explored new worlds of experimental storytelling, immersive dance, and 360 artworks - all with a headset, headphones and swivel chair.
