BMI office officially opens in Austin
Governor Greg Abbott today held a press conference to formally welcome Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) to the state of Texas. BMI recently announced the opening of their new creative office in Austin, marking their first office in Texas and their first company expansion in more than twenty years.

Governor Greg Abbott today announced a Music Friendly Community Workshop scheduled for Friday, March 22, in Abilene. The workshop, co-hosted by the Texas Music Office and the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau, is open to anyone interested in learning about the new Texas Music Office program that seeks to foster music business economic development in Texas cities and communities. Brendon Anthony, director of the Texas Music Office within the Office of the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Division, will be present to explain the Music Friendly Community designation and answer questions.

20 Texas born-or-based acts received a total of 31 GRAMMY nominations today from the Recording Academy, including El Paso's Khalid who topped off the list of Texans with 5 total nominations. The Recording Academy will present the 60th GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, live from Madison Square Garden in New York and broadcast on CBS from 7:30–11:30 pm ET.
