Fall 1985 | In this issue of the Film Texas newsletter, readers learned of the Texas Film Commission's move out of the Governor's Office and into the Texas Economic Development Commission. Then-Executive Director Joel Smith said at the time:
The film industry is rapidly changing...Filming activity is up markedly, and Texans are forging ahead into new areas of development. We are looking forward to being an agency whose expertise and mission is economic development. We will be doing in the one area of film what the rest of the commission does for all business and industry.
The Texas Film Commission would remain a part of the Texas Economic Development Commission until 1991, when Governor Ann Richards returned us back to the Office of the Governor. The Texas Film Commission would go on to officially join the Economic Development and Tourism Division of the Governor's Office in 2015.
