Governor Abbott Announces Virtual Music Friendly Community Workshop In San Marcos
Governor Greg Abbott today announced the Texas Music Office (TMO) and Visit San Marcos will co-host a virtual Music Friendly Community workshop on Wednesday, March 10. TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Chip Adams will co-host the workshop via livestream to represent the TMO, answer questions, and speak about the Music Friendly Community program.
TMO Asks SBA to Accelerate Opening the Application Window for the SBA’s Shuttered Venue Operators Grant
On February 25th, TMO Director Brendon Anthony wrote the U.S. Small Business Administration's Acting Administrator Tami Perriello asking the SBA to accelerate opening the application window for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant. "On behalf of the Texas Music Office and its constituents from all across the state, please take the necessary steps to open applications for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant so that the Texas music industry – and the thousands of individuals employed by the state’s small venues – may live to see another day, as the permanent closure of these venues would be immeasurable to our state’s economy and culture," Anthony wrote. Governor’s Small Business Webinar: Update on SBA Shuttered Venue Operators Grant
The Governor's Office of Small Business Assistance, in partnership with the Texas Music Office, will provide an update on the Shuttered Venue Operator’s (SVO) Grant. The webinar will focus on the information required for small businesses to get ready to apply for the new grant through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Senator John Cornyn, author of the new bill that enacted this funding, will open the event. The expert panel will include Tim Jeffcoat, District Director of the SBA in Houston, and Blayne Tucker, music industry lawyer, venue operator and champion of the new bill.
Governor Abbott Announces Arlington Designated As Music Friendly Community
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that Arlington, having completed the multi-step certification process, has been designated as a Music Friendly Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO). The Music Friendly Community program seeks to foster music business economic development in Texas cities and communities. TMO Community Relations & Outreach Specialist Chip Adams will present the Music Friendly Community designation to Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams on Friday, December 18, 2020, at 12:30 PM during a virtual certification ceremony in partnership with Levitt Pavilion Arlington, the City of Arlington, and the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Governor Abbott Announces City Of Victoria Designated As Music And Film Friendly Community
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the City of Victoria, having completed the multi-step training and certification process, has been designated as both a Music Friendly and Film Friendly Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO) and Texas Film Commission, respectively. A virtual certification ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 17 during the Victoria City Council meeting.
