Texas Film Round-Up in Lufkin

August 23, 2017 | Lufkin, Texas

In partnership with Humanities Texas, TAMI will bring its award-winning Texas Film Round-Up to Lufkin as part of the Angelina County History Harvest. On Saturday, September 16 from 10 am - 3 pm, individuals interested in our FREE digitization program can drop off their Texas-related films and videotapes at the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin at 503 N. 2nd St. We encourage citizens of Lufkin and all of Angelina County to dig their films and videos out of attics and garages and bring them to the Round-Up for free digitization!

Families may also bring historic photos, letters, diaries, and other documents to the History Harvest. Staff and volunteers from the sponsoring organizations will scan paper items onsite and immediately return the owner’s original materials, along with a free digital copy. The sponsoring organizations will also create and retain a digital copy in accordance with the owner’s approval. The History Harvest will create a community collection from the area’s families to document our local, regional, and national heritage. Start gathering your items now!

The History Harvest is free and open to the public, and all ages are encouraged to attend. Free parking is available on site, including spaces for drivers with disabilities. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view historic film clips from the region at the event. Refreshments will be provided.

The Texas Film Round-Up provides FREE digitization for Texas-related films and videos in exchange for the donation of a digital copy of the materials to texasarchive.org. Since 2008, the program has provided new access to more than 30,000 films and videos and served hundreds of individuals and institutions. The program is open to home movies, advertisements, local television, community films, and more. Your films and videotapes are valuable records of Texas history and culture, and with your help, Texas’ media heritage will be available for future generations to appreciate. To qualify for free digitization, participants must be willing to donate a digital copy of their materials to TAMI’s archive, a digital collection at texasarchive.org. We also collect copies of Texas-related films that have already been digitized.

About Texas Archive of the Moving Image:
