Texas Film Round-Up in Alpine
The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) will bring its award-winning Texas Film Round-Up to Alpine this summer! From July 6-8, individuals interested in our FREE digitization program can drop off their Texas-related films and videotapes at the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library on the Sul Ross State University campus from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Citizens of Alpine, Marfa, Ft. Davis, and all of the Trans-Pecos Region are encouraged to dig their films and videos out of attics and garages and bring them to the Round-Up for free digitization!
On Friday, July 7, join TAMI at Marfa's El Cosmico for a free screening of Robert Altman's Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean (1982). DJ Little Danny will provide live music to a pre-show of TAMI footage beginning at 8:30 pm, and the feature film will follow. Films and videotapes can also be dropped off during the screening. Come back to El Cosmico July 8 at 6:00 pm for a moderated discussion about the film, part of an ongoing series in partnership with Sul Ross State University and El Cosmico.
The Texas Film Round-Up provides FREE digitization for Texas-related films and videos in exchange for the donation of a digital copy of the materials to texasarchive.org. Since 2008, the program has provided new access to more than 30,000 films and videos and served hundreds of individuals and institutions. The program is open to home movies, advertisements, local television, community films, and more. Your films and videotapes are valuable records of Texas history and culture, and with your help, Texas’ media heritage will be available for future generations to appreciate. To qualify for free digitization, participants must be willing to donate a digital copy of their materials to TAMI’s archive, a digital collection at texasarchive.org. We also collect copies of Texas-related films that have already been digitized.
Founded in 2002, TAMI is a non-profit organization that works to "discover, preserve, provide access to, and educate the community about Texas' film heritage." The Texas Film Round-Up travels to communities and provides free ditigization for Texas-related films and videos in exchange for the donation of a digital copy of the materials to the archive.
