The ‘At Work With…’ Interview Series is our way of bringing you behind-the-scenes with the names and businesses included in our Texas Production Directory (TPD). We want to showcase the creatives that cover all levels of production experience, backgrounds, and geographies around the state.
This week’s spotlight is on Stacy Brownrigg, Location Sound Mixer based in Dallas and life-long Texan.
Your claim to fame: What special skill or fun fact differentiates you from others?
I was the sound Mixer on Office Space and Bottle Rocket, and I have a platinum record for my engineering contribution on Vanilla Ice's 1990 hit song, "Ice Ice Baby."
What’s the most memorable experience on a project or production that you’ve had and what made it so special?
My most memorable experience was doing the TV Series The Good Guys and the non-stop comedy and entertainment of Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks with the crew.
What are the skills required to succeed in your specific area of expertise?
Experience and longevity. You gotta have a mentor.
Have you had an industry mentor or colleague that has made an impact on you or helped you along your career path? If so who, and how did they impact you?
Skip Frazee. You will have a hard time succeeding if you don't have a mentor or if you don't grow up in the business. Skip gave me all the knowledge he had. He helped several of today's Mixers succeed including Phil Palmer.
What advice have you been given that continues to be helpful in your work?
Never be late, being early is much less stressful.
In your industry, collaboration is the key to success. How do you best foster collaboration with your colleagues from project to project?
Know as much as possible about the other crafts. And be respectful.
What tools and supplies can’t you live without in your job and why?
My Crew that makes me look good and my Pulsue tent.
What’s the best part about working in Texas?
The great people and crews.
