This week’s spotlight is on Maggi Poorman, Art Director based in Houston and a Texan for the past 30 years.
What’s the most memorable experience on a project or production that you’ve had and what made it so special?
Working with Comedy Central on political convention and election night coverage. To be able to work and collaborate with some of the most exciting names in comedy was very memorable.
What are the skills required to succeed in your specific area of expertise?
Never give up, learn from your mistakes and keep smiling.
Have you had an industry mentor or colleague that has made an impact on you or helped you along your career path? If so who, and how did they impact you?
The first movie I worked on was as assistant to Peter Murton, an amazing production designer. Peter showed me there wasn't anything I couldn't learn and shared his invaluable secrets of the trade that gave me a desire to succeed in the art department.
What advice have you been given that continues to be helpful in your work?
Pay knowledge forward to newcomers and don't be afraid to hire people smarter than you.
In your industry, collaboration is the key to success. How do you best foster collaboration with your colleagues from project to project?
Give credit where it is due.
