This week’s spotlight is Joshua Puente, Visual Effects & Animation Artist based in San Antonio and a Texan for the past 45 years.
What are the skills required to succeed in your specific area of expertise?
In order to succeed in the visual effects and animation industry, you have to be very motivated to push your knowledge of technical and creative areas. It can be difficult to keep up with all the skills it takes to succeed due to technology changing so fast, but it can open new creative avenues.
What tools and supplies can’t you live without in your job and why?
I have to have a fast computer and the latest software tools. Time is money, and you have to invest in the best tools.
Have you had an industry mentor or colleague that has made an impact on you or helped you along your career path? If so who, and how did they impact you?
I have had many people help me along in my career. I would say looking up to the industry innovators has always influenced me and pushed me to succeed.
How have Covid-19 safety protocols affected the way that you work?
I work mostly remote. In fact, I am so well setup to work remotely that I have had the most successful year to date.
What are some of the great projects made in Texas that stand out to you?
There are so many great projects that were made in Texas but I think the movies Dazed and Confused and Pee Wee's Big Adventure stand out to me. I'm still looking for the Alamo's basement.
