About the event: The Dallas Screenwriters Association and Austin Film Festival present A Conversation in Film on ‘Writing Horror' with Mick Garris and Steve Niles.
Award-winning filmmaker Mick Garris created and Executive Produced the MASTERS OF HORROR series, an anthology series of one-hour horror films written and directed by the most famous names in the fear-film genre: John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, George Romero, John Landis, Dario Argento, and several others. He is currently in production on a 4-hour miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's novel, BAG OF BONES, which he is directing, as well as Executive Producing the feature film UNBROKEN, based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand.
Best known for works such as 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, CRIMINAL MACABRE, SIMON DARK, MYSTERY SOCIETY and BATMAN: GOTHAM COUNTY LINE, Steve Niles is a writer -- a writer of comics, novels and films. The success of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT sparked renewed interest in the horror genre; Steve's comic was released as a major motion picture in 2007 with SPIDER MAN's Sam Raimi producing, David Slade directing and Niles co-writing the screenplay. Currently, Steve is writing an all new series for 30 DAYS OF NIGHT.
Created in 2007, Austin Film Festival's Conversations in Film is a year-round series of film seminars that provide the public with the unique experience to interact with local and visiting filmmakers. The series is sponsored in part by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.
Admission is free for DSA/AFF/AFS members, and $10 for non-members.
