Texas Music Mixtape: The Mechanical Licensing Collective Talks The Future of Digital Mechanical Royalties from DSPs in the United States
On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, the TMO's Texas Music Mixtape program broadcast a program edited from the 2 recent webinars for music publishers and self-administered songwriters, produced in collaboration with the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC). The radio program highlighted the most important and informative excerpts from the webinar entitled THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL AUDIO MECHANICAL ROYALTIES FROM DSPs IN THE UNITED STATES. The webinar was originally hosted by the Texas Music Office + the newly created Mechanical Licensing Collective on Tuesday, December 8th. The discussion - produced especially for Texas-based music industry professionals - was led by Serona Elton (Head of Educational Partnerships for The MLC) and Kris Ahrend (Chief Executive Officer for The MLC).

Texas Music Mixtape: interview with Charlie Leal and Jonathan Vela of Futuro Conjunto
This week’s guests on the TMO’s Texas Music Mixtape are Texans Charlie Vela and Jonathan Leal, the co-creators of “Futuro Conjunto,” an original work of speculative, transmedia Chicanx fiction. Written between 2019-2020, “Futuro Conjunto” is Vela and Leal’s second Rio Grande Valley (RGV)-focused, cross-country music collaboration (Vela works in Texas and Leal in California). It features contributions from over thirty independent RGV artists, with Leal and Vela writing and performing the music and story.

Wednesday, June 3, 2020 the TMO released the debut episode of the Texas Music Mixtape, a program featuring Texas music news, interviews, and music. Featured here are the first 20 minutes of the program, including an interview with the City of Austin's Music & Entertainment Division Manager Erica Shamaly. Erica talks with Texas Music Office Marketing & Communications Specialist Marc Fort about the City of Austin's new grant programs: the Austin Music Disaster Relief Fund providing $1,000 grants to the city's most vulnerable musicians, and the Austin Creative Space Disaster Relief Program providing up to $50,000 grants to organizations and independent artists facing displacement and difficulty paying rent for their commercial creative spaces.
