Scholarships are available for music majors and non-majors alike. Music majors can receive up to $500 per semester. Non-music majors can receive up to $100 per semester just for performing in one ensemble. This means you could get $100 for singing in the choir or playing in the band, and it is not necessary to have a lot of experience.
We offer courses for music majors and non-majors alike. Music majors take a series of courses that make up the Field of Study. These courses are fully transferable and designed to prepare students to transfer to a four-year institution to complete their bachelor degree in music. This could be in performance, composition, conducting, musicology, or music education. Non music majors may take any of the courses offered to majors. Scholarships are available to music majors and non-music majors.

Music Central pursues twin missions, both designed to produce creative participants and critical observers in the field of music. First, we prepare music students for successful transfer to four-year institutions. Second, we help students from all backgrounds explore their creativity, whether through introduction to great music, instruction in instrumental or vocal performance, or the study of theory and composition. We offer a full schedule of classes, from music appreciation to advanced theory and jazz improv, including ensemble and performance courses. The curriculum is supplemented by a range of private vocal and instrumental classes. The teaching artists of our faculty are working professionals, and you'll find performers from every major ensemble in the city in our classrooms. Classes are offered at Central's Fine Arts Center, a three-building complex that encompasses private and ensemble practice rooms, recital halls, a piano lab, and two theatres.
Music Central collaborates with the drama department on musicals, offering both voice and instrumental students a chance to shine. Student performers, guitar ensembles, faculty performers, all offer regular recitals, and our resident big band, Texas Jazz Central, plays at venues all over the city. Through the department's Artist in Residence program, students can work with and observe professional musicians in the process of creating, rehearsing and performing. Our composition students have their original pieces performed at the end of each semester on student recitals, which also feature our piano, voice, percussion and guitar students in solos and ensembles.

The Music Program at Kingwood College has two primary functions, depending on our students needs: First, it is designed to prepare students to earn an Associate of Arts degree and transfer to a university. For these transfer students (whether or not they are music majors), we offer core courses such as music fundamentals, theory and sight singing/ear training, and music appreciation. In addition, for the beginning student, we also offer class voice and class piano. For more advanced students, we offer instruction in applied voice, piano, strings, guitar, woodwinds and brass. Students in private and class lessons perform in a recital at the end of each semester. We also offer two Jazz ensembles (Big Band and Small Ensemble) and offer a Wind Ensemble and Pops Orchestra. In the summer an Opera workshop is offered. Our two vocal ensembles (Chamber Singers and Kingwood Chorale) perform at least twice each semester. Second, there is a community education track which encourages local citizens to participate in our music classes and our performing ensembles, enhancing the skills of the students and the culture of the community.
Performance opportunities include: Chamber Singers (Todd Miller), Jazz Ensemble, Kingwood Chorale (Todd Miller), and Opera Workship (Todd Miller), Kingwood Pops Orchestra (Gary Leibst 281-618-5696), Big Band (James Stubbs (281) 312-1730), Concert Band (James Stubbs (281) 312-1730).

Country Music is American music born out of the Blues, widely associated with Blacks. However, country music is void of the contributions and participation of Blacks to the genre. While Charley Pride was widely accepted and awarded and Deford Bailey, Ray Charles and Linda Martell enjoyed some acceptance, the doors of country music remain closed to other performers and musicians. The Black Country Music Association™ (BCMA) was formed in January 1989 to enhance the participation and acceptance of Blacks in Country music. BCMA™ is committed to preserving the heritage of Blacks in country music, recognize their contributions and increase the number of performers, through talent showcases, educational seminars and the promotion of the artists to mainstream country. Our mission is to become an organization of excellence in professionalism, musicianship, creativity and respect for all musicians in Country Music. Our interest is to educate the market about Blacks in Country Music and their contributions to the success of the genre. In early 90's, others entering the industry are Mary Ann Palmer, Mary Cutrofellow, Tammie Dee, Larry Kallis and Frankie Staton performed at Rodeos, CMT-Be A Star and Talent Showcase and Contests. Dr. Cleve Francis entered the scene with a record deal with Liberty Records with no fanfare. In the late 2000's Blacks in Country surged with Darius Rucker, Caine Brown, Mickey Guyton, Rissi Palmer, Jimmie Allen and Rissi Palmer. The sky is the limit!
