Music Friendly Community Notes From the Road: September 2022
Every month, we will be sharing a recap of TMO's Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Chip Adams’ travels throughout the state. Chip manages our Music Friendly Community Program, which includes over 30 cities throughout Texas, and growing every day.
This month, Chip made a trip to Galveston and the Texas Coastal region and had the opportunity to meet up with several existing and potential Music Friendly Communities in the region.
Here are Chip’s Notes from the Road:
This month took me to Galveston for this year’s Texas Travel Summit. Jennifer Roush, Vice President of Operations for the Texas Travel Alliance, invited the TMO to speak at the conference about our office and the Music Friendly Community program. Never one to turn down an opportunity to spread the word on the MFC program, I headed to the coast for a brief 24-hour trip.
Upon arriving the evening before, I had some time to explore and find some music before catching some rest. Just minutes from the hotel was Galveston Island Brewing Company, which not only had some solid snacks to tide me over until dinner, but I happened to time it perfectly for the beginning of live music from one of Galveston’s local bands. I opted to not interrupt their set to ask the band name, but they fit the beach vibes perfectly.
The next morning was a full day at the Galveston Island Convention Center, enjoying panels and spending some time speaking with various cities about our office and the Music Friendly program. Not only was this a great opportunity to meet with new cities, I was also fortunate enough to bump into a few of our certified Music Friendly Community Liaisons as well.
While attendees were finishing lunch, I gave a short presentation on the Texas Music Office and our Music Friendly Community program, walking prospective communities through the certification process and highlighting success stories from our various cities. Following my time on stage, several representatives from communities expressed an interest in pursuing certification. I look forward to working with these new communities in the coming months, helping them join our Music Friendly family.
Thank you to the Texas Travel Alliance for the opportunity to speak in front of your attendees. Also, any convention with a puppy lounge gets a thumbs up!
We look forward to seeing more of you when we’re on the road next!
