Texas Music Office Music Education & Community Program Grant – Funded by Texas Music Custom License Plates

The Texas Music Office (TMO) administers the Music Education & Community Program grant, sometimes referred to as the “License Plate Grant”, which provides grants to benefit music-related educational and community programs sponsored by 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas.

Funding for these grants comes from the sale of Texas Music specialty license plates, where $22 from the $30 fee for each custom plate goes directly to the TMO’s Music Education & Community Program grant.

 

The TMO is accepting applications for grant projects in the 2025 Fiscal Year through August 31, 2025 at 5:00PM CST.

Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas may apply. The eligibility criteria for the nonprofit, includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Be a nonprofit organized and based in Texas;

• Be in good standing with the State of Texas; and

• Owe no delinquent taxes to a taxing unit of Texas.

 

Application Process:

  • TMO grant applications must be submitted by an eligible nonprofit.
  • Applicants will be required to enter their 9-digit State Payee Identification Number (Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Vendor ID) to begin an application.
  • Applicants will be required to enter basic organizational information on the Profile. Details Tab in eGrants, including contact information for four grant officials.
  • Applicants are required to provide additional information for the application than what is outlined within this funding announcement.

Apply For the TMO EDU Program Grant

 

Project Period:

The grant term will commence as soon as practicable and shall end no later than August 31, 2025. Grant-funded projects may not exceed a 12-month grant period.

 

Funding Levels:

Minimum Award – $1,500

Maximum Award – $3,000

The Texas Music Office in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism is the first and longest-running state music office in the nation. Since 1990, TMO has fostered the economic development of Texas music businesses, Texas musicians, and Texas communities. Since 2016, TMO has operated the first and only statewide Music Friendly Community Program in the nation, with an extensive network of more than 65 certified Music Friendly Texas community partners across the state. The TMO also serves as a clearinghouse for Texas music industry information, acts as a liaison between music businesses and government offices, publicizes significant industry developments, and attracts essential music industry to the Lone Star State. A vibrant Texas music industry supports local job creation while drawing visitors from around the globe, attracting a talented workforce across industries, and supporting business recruitment and expansion efforts throughout the state.
