Texas Music Mixtape: The Mechanical Licensing Collective Talks The Future of Digital Mechanical Royalties from DSPs in the United States
On Wednesday, December 17, 2020, the TMO's Texas Music Mixtape program broadcast a program edited from the 2 recent webinars for music publishers and self-administered songwriters, produced in collaboration with the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC). The radio program highlighted the most important and informative excerpts from the webinar entitled THE FUTURE OF DIGITAL AUDIO MECHANICAL ROYALTIES FROM DSPs IN THE UNITED STATES. The webinar was originally hosted by the Texas Music Office + the newly created Mechanical Licensing Collective on Tuesday, December 8th. The discussion - produced especially for Texas-based music industry professionals - was led by Serona Elton (Head of Educational Partnerships for The MLC) and Kris Ahrend (Chief Executive Officer for The MLC).
Both Elton and Ahrend discussed how music publishers and self-administered songwriters will collect their digital audio mechanical royalties going forward. The MLC is a nonprofit organization specifically created to fulfill the role of the mechanical licensing admin under the 2018 Music Modernization Act.
