Fort Worth Herd Celebrates 20 Years
The Fort Worth Herd, the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive and a top attraction in Texas, is celebrating its 20th anniversary on Friday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. with a special “Driving 20 Steers for 20 Years” event along East Exchange Avenue.
The Fort Worth Herd, a department of Visit Fort Worth, was created as a part of the city’s sesquicentennial celebration and made its first cattle drive on June 12, 1999 in front of 15,000 spectators.
“It is an amazing journey and one I am proud to be part of,” said Kristin Jaworski, Trail Boss for the Fort Worth Herd. “We’ve touched so many lives over the years through our education programs, interacting with tourists and sharing the Fort Worth story with hundreds of domestic and international media outlets—we are excited we continue to showcase this important piece of history.”
Over the past 20 years the Fort Worth Herd has appeared prominently in hundreds of publications, news programs and travel shows such as: Sunrise on 7 (Australia’s top morning show), DIY’s Desperate Landscapes, The Travel Channel, USA Today, Conde Nast, MiNDFOOD, (Australia), American Ninja Warrior, enRoute (in-flight magazine for Air Canada), American Way (American Airlines in-flight publication), NEXOS (American Airlines Spanish language in-flight publication), Successful Meetings, Smart Meetings, Los Angeles Times, ITV UK.., The Telegraph (U.K.), The Sun (U.K.) and many more.

In twenty years, 9 million spectators have watched 14,148 cattle drives and the Fort Worth Herd has interacted with over 17,000 students annually through tour groups and education programs. The Herd has also made special media and event appearances in New York City, Galveston and Austin
In honor of our 20th anniversary, the May 10th 11:30 a.m. cattle drive down East Exchange Avenue will include a record number of 20 steers in representation of the Fort Worth Herd’s 20 years in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Special celebratory activities at the Cowtown Coliseum Warm-up pen will include a special photo op, 20th anniversary promotional items and special remarks from Mayor Betsy Price, Fort Worth City Council members and other dignitaries.
