#TexasToDo Summer 2018
Newly opened hotels, highly anticipated restaurants and exciting attractions make the perfect combination to visit the Lone Star State this season! Here are a handful of new places to add to your #TexasToDo list.
With a multitude of new flights to Texas, there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying everything Texas has to offer. Frontier now offers nonstop flights from Memphis to San Antonio, Salt Lake City to Austin, and nine additional routes from cities like Albuquerque and Cleveland to San Antonio. United Airlines also added a nonstop flight from Chicago O-Hare International Airport to Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport that starts in November!
Interjet Airlines also announced that it will be providing nonstop flights from El Bajio, Mexico to both San Antonio and Houston. Additionally, two Icelandic airlines, Icelandair and WOW Air, are now flying from Reykjavik-Keflavik International Airport in Iceland to DFW International airport.
Opening late this summer are the ultra-luxury treehouses by Treehouse Utopia, near San Antonio, that will make an outdoor lover out of any city person! Each one is customized, featuring a lavish assortment of décor.
Fulfilling all your eco-conscious, stylistic, and hipster needs, The Flophouze Hotel, near Round Top (which is situated between Houston and Austin), features rooms made from salvaged shipping containers. The hotel also features fire pits, hammocks, a pool, and a collection of curated vinyl and vintage items that you can purchase and take home with you.
Historic O.T. Bassett Tower, in downtown El Paso, has been refurbished under the Aloft Hotel brand to feature 90 rooms, which are a perfect blend of old-school luxury sensibilities with a modern outlook.
Poitín is the newest establishment in Houston, from resident restaurateur Ian Tucker. To celebrate his Irish roots, the eatery is named after an Irish spirit, which that you can try firsthand and pair it with globally inspired dishes, such as the New Orleans-style chargrilled oysters and Thai-inspired chef’s choice of fish.
The Biscuit Bar is a 2,200 square foot restaurant set to arrive at The Boardwalk at Granite Park in Plano (outside of Dallas), serving “scratch-made” biscuits with a variety of sweet and savory toppings such as Nashville-style hot chicken and traditional gravy.
Sushi hotspot chain Nobu has opened Nobu Houston. The upscale Japanese restaurant is known for Nikkei cuisine, celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s blend of traditional Japanese dishes and Peruvian ingredients. Who knows, you might even see a star or two there!
Altstadt Brewery is the all new authentic Bavarian brewery in Fredericksburg, located 70 miles West of Austin, that features world-class brewing equipment, premium German-styled beers, and prominent Brew master Peter Koestler. It also features a gorgeous venue for events and weddings!
Seen as the natural progression of the food hall, Bravery Chef Hall in downtown Houston is the first of its kind and will house five different independently owned restaurants, each with their own unique dining experiences. The current lineup includes three incredible chefs: Felix Florez, owner of Black Hill Ranch, Ben McPerson, founder of Krisp Bird & Batter, and David Guerrero, owner of Andes Café. The final two spots are being curated with specific, complementary chefs in mind.
As the world’s first single-rail IBox track coaster featuring narrow trains soaring along on 15.5-inch-wide steel tracks, the Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ Wonder Woman Lasso Coaster – in San Antonio - won’t look or behave like any thrill machine that has preceded it. Guests can expect a smooth ride with extremely quick twists and turns.
Quest Waterpark is the newest addition to the existing Quest ATX cable wakeboard park featuring an obstacle course, monkey bars, a rock wall, a wiggle bridge and various water slides. It offers high energy fun in a safe environment at a great price.
Texas Live!, aiming for an early August opening, will feature 200,000 square feet of best-in class local, regional and national dining and entertainment. Located conveniently between Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park and the Dallas Cowboy’s AT&T stadium in Arlington, the unique attraction will boast three major venues that will anchor the district: Rangers Republic, Live! Arena and Arlington Backyard along with a Lowe’s Hotel.
Live on the wild side and come see Texas’ newest fur babies including the endearing giraffe Tripqua at Wildlife Ranch near San Antonio, the healthy and happy elephant Tilly at The Houston Zoo, and tiny but ferocious tiger cub Kylo Ren at In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue in Wylie, northeast of Dallas-Fort Worth. They’re waiting for your visit!
