Governor Abbott Announces Latest Slate Of Appointments
This week, Governor Greg Abbott selected multiple qualified candidates to serve on behalf of Texans.
Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board - Governor Abbott appointed Amy Belaire, Ph.D. to the Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board for a term set to expire on February 1, 2030. The Board regulates the commercial oyster mariculture industry.
Family Violence Criminal Homicide Prevention Task Force - Governor Abbott appointed Andrew Friedrichs and Shari Nightingale to the Family Violence Criminal Homicide Prevention Task Force for terms set to expire at the pleasure of the Governor. Additionally, the Governor named Friedrichs chair of the Task Force. The Task Force shall analyze the top risk factors that may lead to family violence criminal homicide, advise and provide resources to state agencies and nonprofit organizations to develop and improve training for professionals who interact with survivors of family violence; collect, analyze, and make publicly available information that is not privileged, confidential, or otherwise prohibited from disclosure by law, organized by region, and develop policy recommendations to assist the state.
Sulphur River Basin Authority Board Of Directors - Governor Abbott appointed Shane Roethle and reappointed Robert “Reeves” Hayter to the Sulphur River Basin Authority (SRBA) Board of Directors for terms set to expire on February 1, 2031. The Board has the responsibility to construct, maintain, and operate inside the state and in the watershed of the Sulphur River and its tributaries inside or outside the boundaries of the authority of any works considered essential to the operation of the authority and for its administration in controlling, storing, preserving, and distributing the water of the Sulphur River and its tributary streams, including the storm water and floodwater.
Texas Commission On The Arts - Governor Abbott appointed Janine Turner to the Texas Commission on the Arts for a term set to expire on August 31, 2029. The Commission fosters the development of a receptive climate for the arts that will culturally enrich and benefit state citizens in their daily lives and attract outstanding artists to become state residents.
Texas Violent Gang Task Force - Governor Abbott appointed Alison Baimbridge and Russell Mayne to the Texas Violent Gang Task Force for terms set to expire at the pleasure of the Governor. The task force forms strategic partnerships among local, state, and federal criminal justice, juvenile justice, and correctional agencies to better enable those agencies to take a proactive stance towards tracking gang activity and the growth and spread of gangs statewide.
