In the first annual Texas Shred-Off at Mohawk, sixteen guitarists will battle head-to-head in a series of tournament style challenges to determine who will reign supreme as the greatest shredder across the Lone Star State. Guitarists born or based in Texas are invited to compete for the $1,666 grand prize. The champion will be chosen by a brutal panel of 5 expert judges including Kyle Shutt (The Sword), Laurie Gallardo (KUTX), Rusty Cooley (Day of Reckoning), Chuck Loesch (NO CONTROL Radio), and Mike Wiebe (Riverboat Gamblers). The event on October 21, 2017 will be hosted by local favorites Thor Harris & Erica Nix. Backing band and Shred Bed provided by members of The Sword. The inside stage will also feature Big Balls TX (AC/DC) and Think Lizzy (Thin Lizzy). Applications are free and open to all Texas based guitarists at www.texasshredoff.com from now until October 2nd. Guitarists must fill out the application form and submit a short video. The Texas Shred-Off defines shredding as all around high-caliber musicianship on guitar, not merely the ability to play fast. All genres, ages, genders and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. All proceeds from the Texas Shred-Off will benefit The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) and Fusebox Festival, two arts non-profits of Austin, TX. Together MoHA and Fusebox have served artists, musicians, and the Austin community for more than two decades through innovative festivals, residencies, programs and events.
