Concert season

The Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral are free and open to the public. The Musical Evenings will feature one of a kind musical collaborations. These wonderful performances will take place in the oldest cathedral in the nation, in the heart of downtown San Antonio. All listeners are invited to meet the artists at the catered dessert reception following every concert. January 14 - A WOMAN IS A SOMETIME THING: Michael Sumuel, bass-baritone, who has performed in leading roles at the Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago collaborates with mesmerizing soprano Pureum Jo, alumna of Houston Grand Opera’s Studio Program, who appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Fransisco Symphony, performed regularly at the Aspen Music Festival, Lincoln Center Festival and the Spoleto Festival, and made her San Fransisco Opera Debut in 2016-2017 season. “Pureum Jo was riveting in her ecstatic despair. You could take neither your eyes nor your ears off her.” (Opera News). Pianist Elena Portnaya, an alumna of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and laureate of numerous international piano competitions, will accompany the soulful duo in collaboration with DreamWeek.
