Texanthropy Spotlight: Arlen and Mary ‘Beth Lohse – 2017 Governor’s Volunteer Award Winners

Each May is celebrated as Older Americans Month, a time to honor and celebrate the many contributions of our senior citizens. This year the Administration for Community Living, which leads our nation's observance of Older American's Month, has designated the theme as “Engage at Every Age” which emphasizes the many ways older adults make a difference in our communities through service. That is why this week’s Texanthropy Spotlight is on Arlen and Mary ’Beth Lohse, two Senior Corps volunteers in San Angelo, and the 2017 Governor’s Volunteer Awards Senior Corps “Make a Difference” Award winners.

Texanthropy Spotlight: The Refuge

As Child Abuse Prevention Month winds down, I want to highlight one more group doing great work to help children affected by abuse, and in particular, child sex trafficking – The Refuge. Importantly, The Refuge helps protect our children by recognizing the threat, and by helping victims to recover and restore their well-being.

Texanthropy Spotlight: March for Meals

You may already know that Meals on Wheels is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. I have been a Meals on Wheels volunteer for almost a decade. Because I love this program so much, I am always looking for ways to get the word out about how wonderful it is, and the invaluable services it provides to seniors. During the month of March, Meals on Wheels programs across the country participate in March for Meals, where they hold fundraising events, walks or races, rallies, galas and more to raise awareness and funding. So Texanthropy is helping to spread the news with this week's #TexanthropySpotlight!
