Garland Designated Film Friendly Texas Certified Community

July 23, 2026

The Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office within the Office of the Governor today announced the City of Garland has been designated by the Texas Film Commission (TFC) as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community after completing the multi-step training and certification process.

“Congratulations to the City of Garland on joining more than 200 Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission partners with communities in every region of the state to market their unique appeal and attract new investments in media production. Through ongoing Film Friendly Texas training, communities are prepared to support media production, spurring on-site spending at local businesses and creating good-paying jobs for Texans.”

Garland is now a Film Friendly Texas, Music Friendly Texas, and Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community.

“Congratulations to the City of Garland on earning the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” said Senator Bob Hall. “Garland has long been a city of innovation, entrepreneurship, and opportunity, and this certification highlights its commitment to welcoming new investment while showcasing the unique character of our community. By attracting film and media productions, Garland is creating new opportunities for local businesses, supporting good-paying jobs, and sharing the story of Texas with audiences around the world. I commend our local leaders for their vision and dedication to strengthening Garland's economy.”

“Congratulations to the City of Garland on earning the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” said Representative Rhetta Andrews Bowers. “This recognition reflects the creativity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit that define our community while creating new opportunities for local businesses, artists, and filmmakers. I look forward to seeing this designation strengthen Garland’s economy, showcase all our city has to offer, and inspire even more investment in our community.”

“Garland’s designation as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community marks an exciting new chapter for the city,” said Representative Angie Chen Button. “Together with its Music Friendly and Tourism Friendly designations, this achievement highlights Garland’s creativity, hospitality, and commitment to economic growth. I look forward to seeing new productions, investments, and opportunities come to Garland and to sharing our community’s unique character with audiences across Texas and beyond.”

“Becoming a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community is an exciting milestone for the City of Garland,” said Mayor Dylan Hedrick. “We are proud to join a growing network of communities that welcome film and television production and the investment, creativity, and jobs that come with it. From our vibrant Downtown Square and historic neighborhoods to our beautiful parks and unique public spaces, Garland offers a diverse range of locations that can help bring stories to life. We look forward to showcasing our city to new audiences while creating additional opportunities for our local businesses, residents, and economy.”

More than 200 Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities across the state receive ongoing training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission on media industry standards, best practices, and how to effectively accommodate on-location filming activity in their community.

For more than 50 years, the Texas Film Commission in the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office has helped grow local jobs and economies by promoting Texas as the premier destination for film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, and extended reality production.
