Description

The SXSW Film & TV department seeks an eager individual to learn more about pre-event planning at a Film & TV Festival. This internship will be a broad, hands-on introduction to the basics of internal operations, primarily focused on Festival Submissions and Accepted Filmmakers. This internship will require interfacing with those who submit to the SXSW Film & TV Festival and those who are ultimately invited, so excellent communication skills are necessary. Please note that this internship is paid.

What You Will Learn

  • The ins and outs of internal operations at a major Film & TV Festival

  • How to interact with both the SXSW screening team and accepted filmmakers

  • How to troubleshoot various filmmaker and submission-related issues

  • How to use Filemaker Pro to become familiar with film submissions

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Handle broken link requests from our Screeners, contact Filmmakers and Main Contacts to update link information in the Filemaker database, and communicate the updates back to our Screeners.

  • Track extension requests and send coupons for extension submissions.

  • Update the Accepted Filmmaker FAQ.

  • Proof materials for the public online festival schedule, bulk emails, and printed materials.

On-site Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Filmmaker Check-In

  • Work at the Filmmaker Help Desk during registration hours and serve as a contact for the Accepted Filmmaker needs.

  • Distribute film guest tickets, troubleshoot badge registration issues

  • Create email automation to inform filmmakers of informal hangouts, happy hours, and award winners

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills

You must be enrolled in an accredited university or college to be eligible for the SXSW Film & TV Festival Internship and live in Texas.

  • Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Have an exceptional work ethic with the ability to both multitask and work independently

  • Be eager to dive in and help when they can

  • Be able to take the initiative when needed

  • Have a good attitude, time management skills, and a sense of professionalism.

  • Work well in a team setting

  • Be able to adapt while maintaining composure in a fast-paced environment

  • Possess good communication skills and have proper phone and email etiquette

  • Have a working knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Gmail, Google software, and Mac computers is a plus

  • Full availability for the entirety of SXSW Event

Physical Requirements

Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods, with or without accommodation. Manual dexterity is required for keyboard, computer, and office equipment useability to lift and move 20lb+ with or without accommodation.

Work Location, Schedule & Pay

The internship is located in Austin, Texas. A time commitment of a maximum of 16 hours per week is required. Core business office hours are Mon-Fri, 10 am 6 pm. Internship hours are flexible depending on class schedule and availability. Full-time availability (40 hours a week) is required during the event. This internship will be from October 2023 - March 2024. This is a paid internship at $12.00/hr.
