DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs skilled technical tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of the City's television facility including broadcast audio systems (Ex. Dante) servers, Mac/PC workstations as well as broadcast video; including but not limited to the following:
 

  • Repairs, calibrates and maintains interface and related equipment; video/audio production equipment, video servers and video routing systems.
  • Provides setup and routing of signal flows in the facility. 
  • Provides relief coverage for Master Control Operator.
  • Provides audio operation of Radio Studios - Audio Booth, Control Room C, and audio editing of programming as required.
  • Installs various types of electronic broadcast and computer equipment; diagnoses and repairs malfunctions; performs periodic preventive maintenance.
  • Performs in-shop studio and field repairs and temporary installation of broadcast system components, such as cameras, production switchers, recorders, etc.
  • Maintains inventory records of parts and equipment serial numbers. 
  • Maintains Engineering stock.
  • Provides purchasing clerical duties for the procurement of materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Driving is an essential function of this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS
There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions with routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree in Modern Electronics or a closely related field.
 
Police Department: Requires attainment of the FCC General Radio/Telephone Operator License within eight months of employment. Preference will be given to individuals presently maintaining an FCC 1st Class Radio/Telephone Operator License.
  
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of practical electronics work experience are required.

Practical electronics work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
 
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS 
A valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

PREFERENCES

Preferences such as: A current IEEE PDH Certification, or equivalent current Certification; SMPTE membership; Broadcast Engineering Degree; AutoCAD experience; and ability to lift moderately heavy items, such as equipment or records boxes (up to 40 - 70 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
 
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
