Abernathy Media Professionals is hiring a Creative Producer. Via AMP:
We are a boutique creative agency with a background in production and learning innovation.
We work on projects as diverse as a broadcast campaign for a national retailer, to an educational VR experience for Facebook, to an animated training series for Neiman Marcus. W might have a live stream going on a Microsoft headquarters while 200 folks are going through a three-day onboarding experience that we designed. So, we solve a lot of creative problems for a lot of different clients.
We have a background in production and embrace the titles of that industry as part of our heritage. That said, our producers are in charge of much more than video projects. Our producers sometimes wear directing hats, creative director hats, as well as writing hats. They manage clients (we don’t have account managers) and are in charge of projects that may touch on branding campaigns, include printed assets, and include audio storytelling a la pod casts or radio spots. They are also strong project managers, handling multiple projects at once. We are a close-knit group that values creativity and problem-solving, as well as a good craft beer.
Because of the creative, problem-solving nature of the job, no list of responsibilities can be exhaustive. One day, a producer may be cutting out shapes for use in a stop-motion video. The next, they may be cleaning a dirty window that they notice in a shot. The next, they may be consulting with a client on creative communication strategy. This job calls for a lot of flexibility!
Also, we have high expectations. When a producer meets expectations, they are doing an excellent job.
In general, they are expected to:
- •Collaborate closely with internal clients and stakeholders to help facilitate the creation of multimedia content
- •Create compelling proposals based on a strong understanding of client needs
- •Create and develop multimedia (audio/video/print) content for creative campaigns/solutions. These might include customer stories, internal company announcement videos, external promotional social videos, product marketing videos, recruiting videos, corporate training, broadcast commercials, photoshoots, printed assets, live events or experiences, VR and other emerging media, and other projects
- • Develop briefs, script/write copy, storyboard, budget, allocate resources, set deadlines and select optimal forms of media for projects
- • Work independently, as well as part of a team to establish project deliverables
- • Plan scope of creative projects, schedule, track and invoice according to budget
- • Plan video shoots or coordinate other creative projects; scout, select and reserve shoot locations
- • Develop production schedules
- • Select and hire additional team, crew and talent; direct and coach talent; make transportation arrangements for crew, talent and equipment; and ensure all location needs are met
- • Reserve and rent equipment
- • Oversee post-production, coordinating with post department for initial visual creative through final editing and/or animation
While we sometimes work with clients who develop their own creative, we are often the creative agency for our clients. Lead with your creative heart by always striving for fresh, innovative, and inspiring ideas for our clients’ projects. Share inspiration with the AMP community and fight for the best execution of our projects–while balancing your creative heart with the resources (time, money, etc.) available.
At AMP, producers have a strong client management aspect of their job. You are on the “front lines” and are the one who communicates most frequently with AMP clients. Fostering that relationship and looking for ways that AMP can help clients achieve their goals is important. When you find ways for AMP to grow our relationship with our clients, you help our community grow. Finding and bringing in new clients is an outstanding way to demonstrate your initiative!
It is expected that producers are proactive and positive in communication. AMP is a community of creative individuals. The community part of that statement implies how important communication is. The AMP environment is structured to foster interactivity between all departments and all individuals. It’s a key factor in our success. When we are constantly sharing our knowledge and experience, we grow and become better partners – and AMP becomes a better company.
If there is one skill that stands out above the rest, it’s a producer’s ability to anticipate and solve the myriad of problems that are present in a creative field. AMP is a very entrepreneurial community. We are self-starters who doggedly surmount the puzzles that are inherent in moving from a challenge to a fully-realized, professional, engaging solution.
All members of the AMP community document and share what we learn in many ways: in person, in formal and informal meetings; on internal wikis; and through blogs and videos that we share online. Our field requires us to break ground–both through our procedural approaches, our creative approaches, and the technology that we use. We all share the responsibility of teaching each other what we’ve learned–and we contribute to our professional community by sharing some of that knowledge, as well.
Producers are directly responsible to AMP’s Senior Producer and Production Operations lead. Quarterly meetings help ensure producers are performing their duties effectively and give everyone the opportunity to communicate openly. That said, we are also a “coach up” organization, believing that everyone has valuable feedback and insight to give. We want to hear your voice about our processes and ways that we can all improve for our community as a whole.
Producers are encouraged and expected to be constantly striving for improvement in all aspects of their job. This includes highlighting issues where they exist, identifying inefficiencies, suggesting new systems and procedures, and genuinely working for the betterment of the department and AMP overall, with a focus on building the business and increasing profitability.
At AMP, we are creative professionals. We conduct ourselves as such. We treat colleagues, crew, and clients with respect and consideration. We are aware that there is a time and a place for casual conduct, as well as a time and a place for more reserved, reflective behavior. We are punctual, responsible, and we do what we say we will do. We communicate with authenticity, mindfulness, and directness, assuming good intent and practicing good intent.
AMP is a creative community and there are times when we invest in our own development of new capabilities, techniques, and portfolio examples. During these times, we may take on projects that aren’t profitable. This is an investment in our future.
For most jobs, however, we strive to bring high quality to our clients as well as profit for AMP. This allows us to sustain and support ourselves so that we can, in turn, be there for our clients with the latest in technology and capabilities. As a producer, you are in charge of individual job profitability to a large degree. We expect that you will shepherd your client’s resources responsibly and close the job with a reasonable profit margin.
