Regular Deadline: May 09, 2025
Raza Cósmica: A constellation of Latinx sci-fi cinema is an international festival that takes place in San Antonio, Texas and showcases sci-fi and speculative films by Latinx and BIPOC filmmakers. Launched by MonteVideo in 2021, the festival is the signature program in the organization’s ongoing efforts to support Latinx-themed independent film screenings for underserved communities via non-traditional venues.
Programming highlights from last year’s fourth edition included a live episode of Xicanx Versus Aliens with filmmakers Edwin Raul Oliva (A Haunting Across the Galaxy), Dylan Hensley (Somos Borderlands), and actor Alejandra Herrera (Itu Ninu, Roma), a special sneak preview of Sundance 2025 selection En Memoria by Raza Cósmica alum Roberto Fatal, and a stellar outdoor screening of Blue Beetle by Angel Manuel Soto.
Previous editions of Raza Cósmica have showcased films from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Prior screenings have taken place at venues throughout San Antonio including Arthouse at Blue Star, Artpace, Cassiano Park, Central Library, Jaime’s Place, the Jump-Start Performance Company, and Mission Marquee Plaza.
MonteVideo was founded with support from the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, Southwest Airlines, the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture through a grant from the NALAC Fund for the Arts Grant Program, and the Luminaria Artist Foundation.
