Lakeway Designated Film Friendly Texas Certified Community

March 13, 2026

March 12, 2026 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

AUSTIN – The Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office within the Office of the Governor today announced the City of Lakeway has been designated by the Texas Film Commission as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community after completing the multi-step training and certification process.

“Congratulations to Lakeway on joining more than 200 Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission partners with communities in every region of the state to market their unique appeal and attract new investments in media production. Through ongoing Film Friendly Texas training, communities are prepared to support media production, spurring on-site spending at local businesses and creating good-paying jobs for Texans.”

“Lakeway has long been a place where families, businesses, and visitors come to experience the very best of Texas living," said Senator Donna Campbell. “This Film Friendly Texas designation gives Lakeway the chance to share its beautiful story, vibrant community, and entrepreneurial spirit with audiences everywhere. Congratulations to the City of Lakeway on this exciting milestone and for continuing to shine a positive light on our great state.”

“Kudos to the City of Lakeway, an Oscar-worthy location to live, play, work, and film," said Representative Ellen Troxclair. “Earning the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community accolade is a continuation of a strong series of five-star actions by Lakeway leadership to expand the strength of our economy and boost the arts as well.”

“Lakeway is a special place, and becoming a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community gives us a great opportunity to share that with a wider audience,” said Lakeway Mayor Tom Kilgore. “From our beautiful Lake Travis views to our welcoming local businesses, this certification will help us attract productions that can showcase what makes Lakeway unique while bringing positive economic impact to our community. We’re excited to roll out the welcome mat and to be part of the thriving film industry here in Texas.”

More than 200 Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities across the state receive ongoing training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission on media industry standards, best practices, and how to effectively accommodate on-location filming activity in their community.

For more than 50 years, the Texas Film Commission in the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office has helped grow local jobs and economies by promoting Texas as the premier destination for film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, and extended reality production.
