Story and Plot: Improving The Read Screenwriting Workshop
April 24, 2021 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Sobre el evento:
The Improving The Read class addresses this significant stumbling block to new screenwriters. It's the first step to making your scripts convey the emotional experience of actually seeing the film.
Taught by WGA Screenwriter Tom Vaughan, this class focuses on how to create the best experience for the reader. It is an absolutely vital skill for anyone looking to get more positive reactions to their scripts. It's called, "a good read." It means the screenplay reads quickly, it's a page-turner, and was actually enjoyable to read. Most of all, it means the script evoked EMOTION from the reader rather than just giving them information.
When they read the script, they saw the movie on the screen.
Your spec script is essentially a selling tool, and this class teaches you how to maximize the opportunity someone gives you when they agree to read it.
In this workshop, you will learn...
• What narrative momentum is and how to maintain it. • Why "proper" formating isn't what you think it is and how to use that to your advantage. • How to win the confidence of the reader so they keep reading even when you might make a misstep. • Duplicating the same rhythm and tempo of your movie right there on the page. • How to write for an emotional response from the reader. • How to help the reader better connect with your characters. • To make sure the reader doesn't skip the action lines and just go straight to the dialogue. • How to write the slimmest, trimmest, and most effective version of your story. • To quietly direct the film and control the story without anyone knowing that's what you're doing.Volver a calendario de eventos
